Welcome to The Man on the Mountain website. Here, I share my life's journey with you - both from the heart and from the peaks of some of the tallest and most remote mountains in the world. My journey has taken me through many ups and downs, and twisting turns along the way. Sometimes, I've had to backtrack. Sometimes, I found myself relying on others to keep going. There are easy spots along the trail, and there are difficult spots. It's a lot like climbing a giant mountain. My hope is that this website gives you perspective and strength to conquer the mountains you encounter along your journey.
On this adventure, we’ll depart from Punta Arenas, Chile, South America’s southernmost airport. Fly over Tierra del Fuego and land on the blue ice runway of Union Glacier, a camp on earth’s southernmost continent.
Our team will then begin our ascent of Mount Vinson, the continent’s tallest mountain standing 16,050 feet! Mount Vinson is also one of the world’s legendary Seven Summits, the tallest peaks on each continent and one of the most remote mountains on the planet.
Located at 4,892 meters (16,050 feet), Mount Vinson is the highest point in Antarctica. Vinson Massif's summit plateau lies in the south part of the main ridge of the Sentinel Range about 2 kilometers (1+1⁄4 mi) north of Hollister Peak. An American team led by Nicholas Clinch climbed it for the first time in 1966. As part of an expedition in 2001, GPS height measurements were taken and the Eastern route was climbed for the first time. It is estimated that 1,400 climbers attempted Mount Vinson's summit by the end of 2010.
I'm excited about my next adventure, climbing Mount Vinson in Antarctica, one of the Great Seven Summits of the World! I wanted to make this challenge mean something special with purpose.
I am using this expedition to raise money and awareness for Child Crisis Arizona. Child Crisis Arizona provides shelter, food, education, and, most importantly, love to Arizona's most vulnerable children, youth & families. For every dollar donated, I'll be matching dollar-for-dollar up to $16,050, the summit's height on the highest peak of the "Ice Continent."
As my way of saying "thanks," I would like to send you an official "Arizona Glacier Club" T-shirt for everyone who makes a tax-free donation. T-shirts are available in Powder Blue & Heather Grey in sizes Medium & Large. Please indicate your color and size preference in the comments section of the donation form.
